Describe the relationship between the organ systems of the human body and the individual needs of each human cell to undergo cellular respiration (as depicted by the equation 6 H20 Water Energy C,H120 6 0 6 CO ATP Glucose Oxygen Carbon dioxide circulatory system internal respiration urinary system absorption - blood

Explanation / Answer

Cellular respiration is a process where in the oxygen is used and carbon dioxide is released. its a sequential process that starts with the abosrption of glucose in the intestine after the digestion of the food we intake. As glucose is produced from the ingested food, it is absorbed into the blood and is taken up by the cells in the tissues through the blood in the circulatory system. As the cells take up glucose and oxygen from the blood, they undergo cellular respiration. The glucose is metabolized into 3-carbon sugar, pyruvate which then is transformed into acetyl Co-A which then is shuttled to krebs cycle where it is decarboxylated to produce 10 ATPs in the form of reductive energy of NADH, FADH2 and ATP itself. This reductive energy is then passed on to the electron transport chain where the electrons from these reduced species are passed on to O2 to produce carbon dioxide and water. The carbon dioxide and the water are then picked up by the blood in the circulatory system. This process of exchange of gases between the blood and cell i.e.abosrption of oxygen and release of carbon dioxide into the blood is known as internal respiration. The blood is then filtered by the kidneys of the urinary system to remove the water and carbon dioxide (bicarbonate) from the body.
