A circular coil enclosing an area 300 cm^2 is made of 600 turns of copper wire as show in Figure 4- The resistance of the circular coil is negligible; and a resistor R with resistance = 18 ohm is connected to the ends of the coil. Initially, a uniform magnetic field of 3 T is directed upward across the coil as shown in Figure 4. Then, the magnetic field is completely reversed its direction (now pointing downward) in 0.2 s. Determine the magnitude of average current flows through the resistor in that time interval.Explanation / Answer
dB/dt = (3T-(-3T))/0.2 s = 6/0.2 = 30 T/s
induced emf,
E = N*A*dB/dt
= 600*(300*10^-4 m^2)*30
= 540 V
I = E/R
= 540/18
= 30 A
