Please response/comment to the follwong discussion. Response must be well thought-out and complete sentences. Do you agree or disagree and why? etc.

Allowing the legalization of Euthanasia would open a very large can of worms that would cause many problems in the long run. Many people at death's door who are unable to end their lives themselves, is similar to individuals who commit suicide who are able bodied. There are often called "suicide's other victims". They are husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, brothers, sisters, children, and friends that people leave behind. Not only are they harming them, but they are also paving the way for crimes yet to be committed. As long as the doctor has "proof" that the person consented to this, then they can go ahead and end their lives, but what if the family is not in agreement? They can put up a legal fight that could potentially end in the doctor losing his license and going to jail. People with these life altering conditions who will never live "normal" lives are under so much emotional turmoil that they need counseling and therapy to see that their lives are valuable and worth it.

Thank you!

Explanation / Answer

I do not agree with the view that Euthanasia, from a long term perspective, would cause more harm than good. Of course, coping with the voluntary death of a loved one would cause emotional suffering for the family. At the same time, however, individuals who opt for Euthanasia are those with an extremely delibitating illness that has no cure. For the immediate caregivers, it is immensely challenging and resource extensive to support the patient.
