Miguel 2:16pm To first answer this question, it is important to define high altitude." According to International Society for Mountain Medicine, high altitude is between 5,000 and 11,500 feet. There is very high altitude and extreme altitudes that follow the altitude in which we will be focusing on. It is important to note that the higher in altitude one goes, the more important it is to be aware of your hydration levels. At high altitudes, sweat evaporates faster and it is harder to notice how much water you are actually losing through exertion. The higher you go, the lower the oxygen levels, which causes you to breath in and out deeper and quicker. By breathing harder you are losing a lot more water through respiration. There are life threatening conditions that can affect you at high altitudes of eight thousand feet. Since you lose more water the higher you go the easier you can dehydrate, but that is not the only effect that high altitudes cause. Some effects include, nausea headaches, and fatigue. Now a follow up question may be, how much water shall someone drink at higher levels? According to the Institute for Altitude Medicine, "drink an extra 1 to 1.5 liters of water daily when at high altitude."Explanation / Answer
Yes, as we move on higher altitudes the body gets dehydrated due to low humidity in the higher altitudes. When the humidity is low the sweat evoprates rapidly and thus causes dehydration. Many of us think that is higher altitude so that our body was showing some altitude sickness but it is not true. The symtoms of this dehydration is headache, skin becoming dry, rapid hartbeat and rapid breathing and etc.So every one are asked to carry a couple of water bottles or glucose or some fruit juices which helps our body not to dehydrate. And at higher altitudes the ultraviolet raditions effects more due to thin air.In that care our sking gets damages like sunburns and for a person with sensitive skin may causes skin cancer so to be safe from this people should carry body lotions and sunscreen lotions that helps in protecting our sking from this uv radiations.
Yes we should drink an extra water of 1 to 1.5 because as told in the above the water inside the body will be evaporated in the form of sweat. So while moving on higher altitudes make shure to drink excess water.
