Question
Moleculre possess two kinds of forces-- chemical bonds and secondary forces (intermolecular forces)
a) Describe the difference between the two forces
b) what properties of compounds depend on chemical bonds?
c) what properties depond on secodnary forces?
Part 2
Lets say there was a machine located in a room and that when you press the machines buton all secondary forces become zero..
a) what do you see when you first press the button? Explain why
b) what do you see once you enter the room? Explain why
Explanation / Answer
Part 1
i.Primary bond :
It is a force that holds atom together to form a chemical bond. This bond is responsible for the
chemical properties of that compound.
ii. Secondary bond :
It is electrostatic force of attraction between the ions or partially charged particle. it intermolecular force. Generally, holds the molecule together. (excpet ionic bond it holds the ions together eg. NaCl)
b. All the chemical properties of the compounds depen on chemical bond.
c. Physcial properties of the compounds such as meltiong, boilling points depend on secondary forces.
Part : 2
a. Secondary forces are very weak forces. if you raise the kinetic energy of the molecules, then the moleule will be able to escape from the secondary force.
That machine should be heater. it provides the thermal energy to the molecules.
Thermal energy is enough to raise the kinetic enrgy of the molecules.
b. when we enter into that room we will feel the warmth
