Explanation / Answer
Seals have an evolutionary link with terrestrial mammals. When Puijila darwini was discovered, they found that it was like an otter with webbed feet and a swimmer. This animal has legs which must have slowly evolved to flippers with natural selection. This animal was found in a lake suggesting that the ancestors of the seal also lived in fresh water and later migrated to aquatic habitats.
