Question
With respect to communication satellites:
i geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellites are high-flying satellites that appear to remain motionless in the sky
ii the altitudes between 0 and 5000 km are the best location for satellites, because we save resources by maintaining them closer to the earth
iii between 15,000 and 20,000 km above earth we have layers of highly charged particles trapped by the earth’s magnetic field; and, any satellite flying within them would be destroyed by the particles
iv medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites take about 6 hours to circle the earth
Explanation / Answer
ii) the altitudes between 0 and 5000 km are the best location for satellites, because we save resources by maintaining them closer to the earth
This is incorrect because the Low earth satellite is in this range, rest all are above 5000 and most of the satellites runs at altitude in terms of tens of thousands Kms.
