From the observation table provided we can conclude that for strain Gr the growth time of culture is 30 hours in the presence of glucose, pyruvate, and absence of EtOH at a maximum cell concentration of 5.2 cells/ml. However, in absence of glucose source and presence of EtOH growth time is reduced to 20 hr. In case of strain Pe, we observe that both presence or absence of glucose does not affect the growth of the cell as long as EtOH is present the Growth time of the culture reduces to 20 hr. Hence it can be concluded that strain Pe is using EtOH as the carbon source for metabolism. whereas strain Gr does not utilize EtOH as a carbon source.
