Some knowledge is embedded in business processes, activities, and relationships that have been created over time through the implementation of a continuing series of improvements.

Q1. How can an organization generate the knowledge?
Organizations can generate knowledge through multiple drivers and leverage multiple sources. Some are explained as below:
Q2. Consider an area of expertise you have developed within the past 4 years. Using phases of knowledge conversion process as guide, review how you developed your knowledge and capabilities in this area?
I have developed a good knowledge base in Supply Chain Management.
Socialization: Tacit to tacit – I always used to learn from my bosses and superiors during their project execution client conversations. This gave me a lot of insights and understanding of customer issues.
Externalization: Tacit to explicit – The processes and analysis did during a project was documented well through the use of different tools like MS Office, Project reports, etc. which are very useful in referring to the coming projects as well as new projects.
Combination: Explicit to explicit – These project documents were further refined and converted into the hard copies for individual storage.
Internalization: Explicit to tacit – Frequently going through these hard copies and documents helped I internalized them and I no longer felt to go through them for references.
Q3. Imagine you are the new area manager of a large franchise store, which has three franchise and a central office. How will you efficiently manage each of these four process (SECI)?
Socialization: Tacit to tacit – I will try to make my store people aware and notice the insights drawn by the other stores share among themselves as well as within store experience sharing so that people can learn easily and modify their strategies based on customer demands
Externalization: Tacit to explicit – I will create a tool to store all the tacit knowledge like how to deal with a hard customer, how to cross-sell etc, in a dedicated tool so that all the stores and central office can go through them and learn.
Combination: Explicit to explicit – I will motivate and encourage my employees to refine these insights and develop models on top of them so that we can create better customer experience strategies.
Internalization: Explicit to tacit – Here I will create tests, training plans so that all the employees, whether in-store or central office, internalize these insights and knowledge.
