Explanation / Answer

Answer 1. Modified sit and reach test is designed to correct the variable length of individuals arm and leg. This was the limitations of the standard sit and reach test. Standard sit and reach test focusses on the flexibility of the individual. But in modified sit and reach test, zero mark is adjusted for each person based on their reach level of sitting. These tests are important for the measurement of the flexibility of the hip reason specially hamstring muscle. Modified sit and reach box is used in this test

Answer 2. There are two methods of flexibility measurement direct and indirect. Direct method measure angular displacement between adjacent parts of the body whereas indirect method involves measurement of linear displacement between adjacent parts of the body. From the definition itself it is obvious that direct method is better than indirect method. Examples of indirect method are sit and reach test, floor touch test, groin muscle flexibility test etc. Direct method includes modified thomas test and straight leg test.
