Question
1. How does the morphology of Macrophages , fibroblasts, keratinocytes and lymphocytes relate to its functions?
2. Give an example of external stratified epithelium and internal straified epithelium
3. Which cell types are found in th e blood? which are found in the tissues? (Macrophages , fibroblasts, keratinocytes and lymphocytes)
4. Which cell types are the largest? the smallest? what would be the advantage of a smaller cell? (Macrophages , fibroblasts, keratinocytes and lymphocytes)
5. Which cells are the most adherent(flattest)? the least ? What is the advantage of each? (Macrophages , fibroblasts, keratinocytes and lymphocytes)
Explanation / Answer
Answer 1. The function of macrophages, fibroblasts, keratinocytes and lymphocytes are related to each other in terms of their role in immunity. Macrophage engulf the foreign antigens by reaching at the site of infection. Fibroblast has role in wound healing by connective tissue formation. Keratinocytes are present in skin and provide first line of defence. Lymphocytes are white blood cells and form neutrophils that act on foreign antigens.
Answer 2. External stratified epithelium is present in skin, sole and palm. It provide extra cushion and first line of defence to the body. Internal stratified epithelium is present in lining of internal hollow organs like oral mucosa, oesophagus etc.
Answer 3. Lymphocytes are white blood cells and found in blood. Keratinocytes are skin cells and found in tissues.
Answer 4. Macrophages are largest and lymphocytes are smallest cell types in the given cells. Advantages of being smallest is easy flow within blood vessel and fast reach out to the site of action.
Answer 5. Keratinocytes are most adherents and macrophages are least adherents. Most adherent help in being used in skin cells where pressure is more like sole and palm. Least adherent property help in flow and fast reaching at the site of action.
