Question

1. This is an interactive activity using "Faraday's Electromagnetic Lab" at https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/ faraday (jGust click on the link in this PDF file). It is fun and great for hands-on learners, and will not take as much time as k on any of the five tal Pickup Coil, Electromagnet, Transformer, and Generator. For the Bar Magnet, you can drag a compass around to get a feel for the magnetic field. You can also select Show Field Meter to measure the strength of the magnetic field. For Pickup Coil, you can move the magnet through a coil loop to either light a bulb or affect a voltmeter. For the Transformer, you can move an electromagnet near a coil loop and see what makes the light bulb shine most brightly. Feel free to play arounod with the simulation. When you are done, click Reset All before beginning Part A.

Explanation / Answer

(a)

Brightness will increase quickly as magnet is moved through the coil quickly...this is because, the magnetic flux through the coil is changed swiftly and this inturn INDUCED EMF IN COIL swiftly.

(B)

The location will not be found as only if flux through the coil attached to bulb changes, emf is induced.

Ways to change flux through coil is:

1.Change magnetic field with time ,which is not in DC current.

2. Moving the dc current carrying coil.

So if dc coil is at rest, no location is there

(C)

In Alternating current, with ang.freq. (w) current reverses direction w times a second therefore, magnetic filed(both magnitude and direction) are changed constantly. This induced emf in coil as flux changes through the coil on right.

Brightness varies proportionally with ang.freq.of the AC signal.

(D)

If freq(w) is lowered, the number of times bulb glows and turns off also decreases wrt time.

Brightness will be greatest (w) times in. Second.
