A logarithm is a mathematical operation that determines how many times a certain number, called the base, is multiplied by itself to reach another number.

It has to do with the base of the logarithm than with the argument of the logarithm.As the base can only be a positive number, that means the argument of the logarithm can only be a positive number.

If we raise a negative number to a positive number that’s not an integer, instead its aa fraction or a decimal, we may end up with a negative number underneath a square root. Only if we’re getting into imaginary numbers, we can’t deal with a negative number underneath a square root.
