Question

Question Part Points Submissions Used The man shown above is pushing on a refrigerator that sits on a level floor. Assume the entire floor, including the portion under the man, is frictionless. The force exerted by the man has a magnitude of 112 N and the refrigerator has a mass of 200 kg. Use Newton's third law along with his second law to find the acceleration of the man. Assume he has a mass of67 kg. (The force F is pointing in the positive direction. Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer.) A cannon is fired horizontally from a platform (see figure). The platform rests on a flat, icy, frictionless surface. Just after the shell is fired and while it is moving through the barrel of the gun, the shell (mass 3.0 kg) has an acceleration of +2675 m/s2. At the same time, the cannon has an acceleration of -0.75 m/s2. What is the mass of the cannon?

Explanation / Answer

force= m*a s0, 112= 67*a so, a=1.671m/s

m1*a1= m2*a2

3*2675=0.75*m2

so, m2=10700kg
