Question

7.-/4 points SerPSE9 31 P.034 My Notes Ask Your onducting bar of length moves to the right on two frictionless rails as wn in the figure below. A uniform magnetic field directed into the page a magnitude of 0.280 T. Assume R = 8.70 ? and I = 0.360 m (a) At what constant speed should the bar move to produce an 8.20-mA current in the resistor? m/s (b) What is the direction of the induced current? clockwise o counterclockwise o into the page o out of the page (c) At what rate is energy delivered to the resistor? mW (d) Explain the origin of the energy being delivered to the resistor. This answer has not been graded yet

Explanation / Answer

a) let the speed is v

as the induced current

I = B * v * L/R

0.00820 = 0.280 * v * 0.360/8.70

solving for v

v = 0.71 m/s

the speed is 0.71 m/s

b) as the flux in the loop is increasing

the induced current will be counterclockwise

c)

rate of energy delivered = I^2 * R

rate of energy delivered = 0.00820^2 * 8.70

rate of energy delivered = 5.85 *10^-4 W

d) the energy is coming from the agent moving the resistor
