Question
A circular coil has a 9.76 cm radius and consists of 43.0 closely wound turns of wire. An externally produced magnetic field of magnitude 2.60 mT is perpendicular to the coil. (a) If no current is in the coil, what magnetic flux links its turns? (b) When the current in the coil is 5.65 A in a certain direction, the net flux through the coil is found to vanish. What is the inductance of the coil?
Chapter 30, Problem 041 Your answer is partially correct. Try again. A circular coil has a 9.76 cm radius and consists of 43.0 closely wound turns of wire. An externally produced magnetic field of magnitude 2.60 mT is perpendicular to the coil. (a) If no current is in the coil, what magnetic flux links its turns?(b) When the current in the coil is 5.65 A in a certain direction, the net flux through the coil is found to vanish. What is the inductance of the coil? (a) Number7.781e-5 (b) Number Click if you would like to Show Work for this question: Units Wb oetr Units H Open Show WorkExplanation / Answer
Magnetic flux through the coil = NBA= NB(r2)
Here magnitude of magnetic field B = 2.6 mT=2.6 x 10-3 T
Radius of the coil r = 9.76 cm = 0.0976m
Number of turns N = 43
Therefore = 43 * (2.6 x 10-3T) ( x (0.0976m)2)
= 0.003345 wb or 3.345*10-3 wb
b) L= n / i = 40*0.003345 / 5.65 = 0.0236 H
