Question
A convex mirror has a focal length of -24 cm. Find the magnification produced by the mirror when the object distance is 5 cm and 23 cm (1/-24) = 1/5 When an object is located very far away from a convex mirror, the image of the objects is 23 cm behind the mirror. Determine where the image is located when the object is placed 8.5 cm in front of the mirror. An object is placed 13 cm in front of a concave mirror whose focal length is 14 cm. The object is 3.8 cm tall. Determine the location of the image, taking a real image as a positive value and a virtual image as a negative value Determine the height of the image, where an upright image will have a positive height + inverted negative height.Explanation / Answer
a) From the mirror equation, we have
(1/5) +(1/v) = -1/24
1/v = -1/5 -1/24
v = -4.14 cm
therefore, the magnification is,
m = -(-4.14)/5 = 0.828
b.
from the mirror equation, we have
(1/23) +(1/v) = -1/24 or
v = -11.74 cm
Hence, the magnification is,
m = -(-11.74)/23 = 0.51
from the above results, we can say that
Image is diminished and erect in two cases
