Question
A converging lens of 20- cm focal length is placed at the center of curvature of a concave spherical mirror whose radius is 40 cm. Locate the final image of an object that is very far away. Measure from the lens, positive in front of the lens and negative behind the lens in between the lens and mirror.Numeric answer is needed!
(please show work! thanks!)
[Keep in mind:
The parallel light comes through the lens, focuses at the focal point of the mirror, bounces off the mirror and comes out parallel.
Thus you put infinity.
But...
What happens to the light that bounced off the mirror when it GOES BACK THROUGH THE LENS PARALLEL.
This will give you a numeric answer.]
Explanation / Answer
Light that bounced off the mirror when it GOES BACK THROUGH THE LENS PARALLEL will form the image at the positive focal point of converging lens Final image is at +20 cms from the lens
