Question
A mass(m) is connected to a massless string and released from the horizontail postion (A)........ Second Postion (B) the mass is vertical.......Third postion(C) the mass is at angle 45 degrees below the horizontal. At which instance, is the tension force on the string is greatest?Explain
a) A......b) B......c) C......d) Equal tension force at all instants
If you make a right turn with your car too fast, you feel a force to the left. Why?(a)there is a friction force between the road and the car(b)since my velocity changes, there has to be a centipetal force(c)cars engine creates a forward force(d)due to inertia, my mass resists to the change in the velocity
Explanation / Answer
as the mass is releasd from the horizontal position
the tension at the bottom is
T = mv^2/r + mg
as tension provides centripetal force and it is oposite to gravity
Tension is maximum at the bottom B) the vertical
-----------------------------------
when we take a quick left turn
as the centripetal force is not available . we feel a pseudoforce to the right
(b)since my velocity changes, there has to be a centipetal force
