Explanation / Answer

Given the circuit below. R1 is 73Ohms , R2 is 158Ohms , R3 is 203Ohms , R4 is 114Ohms , R5 is 242Ohms , R6 is 250Ohms , R7 is 253Ohms , and R8 is 200Ohms . The potential difference between points a and b is 56V

Rnet = 73+73.45+((250*253)/(250+253))+200 =
472.2 ohms

i1 = V/Rnet = (56/472.2) = 0.118 A

net resistsnace of R2,R3,R4 and R5 is 'R'

1/R = (1/R2)+(1/(R3+R4)) + (1/R4)

1/R = (1/158) + (1/(203+114)) + (1/242)

R = 73.45

potential drop across R2 = i1*R = 0.118*73.45 = 8.66 V

current through R2 is i2= V/R2 = 8.66/158 = 0.0548 A

current through R3 is i3 = V/(R3+R4) = 8.66/(203+114) = 0.027 A

potential drop across R3 is = i3*R3 = 0.027*203 = 5.481 V

potential drop across R4 = i3*R4 = 0.027*114 = 3.078 V

current through R4 is i4 = i3 = 0.027 A

potential drop across R5 is = 8.66 V

current through R5 is i5 = V/R5 = 8.66/242 = 0.035 A

nete resisstance of R6 and R7 is R1

R1 = (250*253)/(250+253) = 125.75 ohm

potential drop across R6 is = i*R1 = 0.118*125.75 = 14.83 V

current through R6 is i6 = 14.83/R6 = 14.83/250 = 0.059 A

potential drop across R7 is = 14.83 V

current through R7 is i7 = 14.83/253 = 0.0586 A

potential drop across R8 = 0.118*200 = 23.6 V

current through R8 = 0.118 A
