Light is incident from air onto the surface of a liquid. The angle of incidence is 60.0
Light is incident from air onto the surface of a liquid. The angle of incidence is 60.0°, and the angle of refraction is 30.0°. What is the speed of the light in the liquid? My work: n = c / v --> so if i'm looking for v --> v = c / n then I use the equation tan(theta) = nb/na --> i'm solving for na which I will plug into the previous equation as n and find v but I get na to be 0.57 which isn't possible.Explanation / Answer
from snells law
n1*sin theta1 = n2*sintheta2
1*sin60 = n2*sin30
n2 = 1.732
v = c/n2 = 3e8/1.732 = 1.73*10^8 m/s <<<<_-----------answer
