Question

1. sodium diamminedicarbonatoruthenate(III)

2. tetraamminediaquairon(III) chloride

I am getting the following for my answers:

1. Na[Ru(CO3)2(NH3)2], but the correct answer in the book is shown to be Na[Ru(NH3)2(CO3)2]

2. [Fe(NH3)4(H2O)2]Cl3, but the correct answer in the book is shown to be [Fe(NH3)4(H2O)2]Cl3

I don't understand why my answer is wrong though. I thought that to name a complex ion, we need to follow the format: [metal, anion, neutral], where if there are multiple anions and neutral compounds, then they are listed alphabetically based on chemical formula (NOT name).

Explanation / Answer

No they are written alphabetically according the name like amine will come before carbon.
