a) The conversion of Nitrate (NO3-) to N2 is termed as denitrification as it involves the evolving of Nitrogen gas into the atmosphere from Nitrates present in the soil.

b) The conversion of Organic N to NH4- ion is the process called as ammonification, since Nitrogen is converted to a usable form.
