Question
PLEASE EXPLAIN EVERY SINGLE STEP
i understand using the continuity equation.... but logically.... 50mL of 1.0 Li has .05 moles in it. Same with the other solution. you put those two together you have .1 moles. .1 moles in .1 liters is 1M. why isnt the answer A?
1 M LiBr The resulting solution made from the combination of 50 mL of 1.0 M LiOH with 50 m of 1.0 M HBr wl be identical in all respects to 100 mL of THE CORRECT ANSWER 0.5 M LiBr Click here to view the periodic table YOU WERE SURE AND INCORRECT a saturated solution of LiBr(s). 2M LiBr DON'T KNOW YETExplanation / Answer
Moles formula is Moles = Molarity x volume of solution in L
hence moles of LiOH = 1M x 0.05 = 0.05 mol
moles of HBr = 1M x 0.05 = 0.05mol
we have equation HBr + LiOH ---> LiBr + H2O
Thus 0.05 moles of LiOH combined with 0.05 moles of HBr to form 0.05 moles of LiBr
Thus LiBr moles = 0.05 , solution volume = 50+50 = 100 ml = 0.1L
Now Molarity of solution = moles of LiBr / solution volume
= ( 0.05 mol) / ( 0.1L) = 0.5 M
Thus we have 0.5 LiBr
( Note as solution volume increase , Molarity decreases )
