Question
The mole fraction of KNO3 in an aqueous solution is0.0194. The solution's density is 1.0627 g/mL. Calculate the molarity of the solution. I am fine with converting any other combo of concentrationunits, but somehow this one stumps me. Thanks, and I'llrate! The mole fraction of KNO3 in an aqueous solution is0.0194. Thanks, and I'llrate!Explanation / Answer
Assume there is 1 mol of solution: There is 0.0194mol ofKNO3 and 0.9806mol of H2O n(KNO3) = m/M m(KNO3) = nM = 0.0194 x 101.11 = 1.96g n(H2O) = m/M m(H2O) = nM = 0.9806 x 18.016 = 17.67g Total mass of solution = 1.96 + 17.67 = 19.63g Density = mass/volume 1.0627 = 19.63/Volume Volume = 18.47mL Molarity = 0.0194mol/0.01847L = 1.05M Hope this helps!
