Question

A sample of sodium reacts completely with 0.284 kg of chlorine forming 468 g of sodium chloride. What mass of sodium reacted? Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units. When carbon is burned in air it reacts with oxygen to form carbon dioxide When 13.2 g of carbon were burned in the presence of 53.6 g of oxygen 18.4 g of oxygen remained unreacted: What mass of carbon dioxide was produced? Express your answer to one decimal place and include the appropriate units

Explanation / Answer

Na+ + Cl- ------> NaCl

1 mol of Na+ = 1 mol of Cl- = 1 mol of NaCl

now,

1 mol Na+ = 23 g

1 Mol Cl- = 35 g

so,

35 g Cl- = 23 g Na+

284 g Cl- = 284*23/35 = 186.623g Na+

So, 186.623 g sodium reacted
