In the given standard reduction potential , the reduction potential of Ge4+ is more than that of Zn2+ , Ge4+ acts as cathode & at cathode reduction takes place .

where as the Zn2+ will acts as anode & oxidation takes place at anode

At cathode (reduction takes place) : Ge4+ + 4e- <---> Ge

The overall reaction is : Ge4+ + 4e- +2 Zn <---> 2Zn2+ + 4e- + Ge
