How do these activities help shape your ideas about your life and how you interact with others?
Collective sports come in to cover an important need of any human being: belonging sense. Everybody needs to belong to something, some people feel this need in more intensity, some people feel it less, but everyone always have this need in some kind or sometimes.
Ideas as success as an output of teamwork, or as a way to reach some social position or influence, leadership as an epic performance, the way as an sport team preference defines my identity, it shape the manner as I build my own truths, my own life story to some people is linked to sports.
How do sports bring you, and others, a sense of meaning and purpose in social life?
It is important to understand that through social interaction, the individuals build their own moral. For that, sports works as a mean through which we practice important values as empathy, solidarity, cooperation, responsibility, hard work, determination, perseverance, and so on.
How are related some important spheres of social influence such as family, media, religion, and community with sports?
They are very related. In fact, sports are a good way of reach social cohesion, some European countries are good examples, both social cohesion or social division, all related with sports, like the rivality between Manchester United vs Chelsea, or Real Madrid vs Barça.
In the movie Invictus, we have other real example. South African society already was divided by Apartheid, and the memories of all the injustices occurred in the middle of its validity, but Mandela uses the appearance of the National Selection as a mean to join all the country in an identitary goal, win the cup.
