Question

Think of a simple topic that can be studied longitudinally. (Remember you need a topic that deals with changes that occur over some period of time. For instance, how often do students change jobs or careers after they graduate from college? You can only use this topic if no one else has used it in the discussion forum so far.) Which type of longitudinal study design would you recommend for this topic and why? What makes this the preferred design? If this design were not feasible for some reason, what would be your second choice for a study design and why?

Explanation / Answer

A topic that can be studied longitudinally is changes of fashion over time. This is cohort study, where ladies of a particular region (with common culture, age) is studied over a period of time. This is the preffered design as this study helps to understand the impact of advertisements of garments on women of concerned age. This would also help the marketing department to focus on specific design of clothes, which was fad or clothes that lasted as fashion etc. The second choice might be panel study, wher eladies would be given a chance to participate in an event with their preffered clothings and their taste and choices would be observed.
