The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) Health IT Certification Program helps to ensure that health IT conforms to the standards and certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The Office of Health IT Certification was established to develop and oversee national programs for the certification of health information technology by the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. Health IT certification provides assurance to purchasers and other users that a system meets the technological capability, functionality, and security requirements.

Demographics testing is very essential for providing the certifications. Demographic details contains the ethinicity, race and the locational details of the people related to the health care units. It also contains the preferred language of the patients. It will be very easy for the the hospital management to check what are all the ares of residents of patients that are coming to the health care units.
Another such test requirement is the clinical decision support.
Evidence based clinical decision support must be provided by the healthcare unit. Electronic decision support system is also availble with many of the health care centres. The patient can opt for that option to use the electronic decision support. The clinical decision support is done based on the various parameters, namely, demograhics details, medication list, results of the laboratory test conducted, evaluation of the medical tests conducted.
