Question

Answer the following questions. Answers will vary, and the thought you put into the answers is most important, but 35-40 words per answer part (i.e., la, lb, 2a, 2b) is a good minimum target. The Aft textbook defines a six-step "scientific method of problem solving or methods analysis" as follows: Compare this model with the Engineering Design Process and the Scientific Method models defined at http://www.sciencebuddies.org/eneineering-design-process/engineering-design-compare-scientific-method.shtml. Which of these two methods at the web ink is closest to the six-step process in our textbook, and why? Why do you think Aft jess the phrase "scientific method" to describe iis six-step process?

Explanation / Answer

a. The scientific method is closest to six step process of text book. Both the scientific method and six step method processes focus more on problem solving by identifying the root cause of problem. Both focus on getting alternatives for the problem. The alternative is evaluated before drawing the final conclusion.

b. An accelerated failure time model (AFT model) is a parametric model that provides an alternative to the commonly used proportional hazards models. It uses scientific process in gathering information. The evaluation part is also done based on data all the alternatives are evaluated till we get an optimal solution for the problem. it uses mathematical model for problem solving.
