Research is critical to performing your work effectively. For our discussion this week we need to address the following questions regarding research:
Why is research an important part of problem solving in the workplace?
What are some examples of situations in the workplace when research is necessary?
Describe the ways that current technologies make research easier for workplace writers, as well as the ways that these technologies make research more difficult. You may base your answers on real-life experiences and observations if you wish.
Explanation / Answer
We can say that no level of decision-making process is done without some element of data or data collection process. This in itself would allow us to understand what is the benefit that we achieve by using data in performing our work effectively. It allows us to skip the Guesswork, avoid mistakes and make relevant decisions based on actuality.
The factors such as forecasting, scheduling, and appraisals are some of the important processes in the workplace that requires relevant data for its conduct which is based on the proper research processes.
Technology allows us to sample data at a rate and volume that becomes almost impossible and time-consuming to do manually. It allows in the collection, recollection as well as storage of the data into categorized volume and therefore makes it easier to make calculations and data interpretation based on the processes of statistics.
Technology however also creates problems for us in the matter of cost of operation, upgradation as well as the factor of sorting out the relevant data in order to minimize the storage cost and create an efficient system in the most general sense.
