Question
Scenario: University Hospital has a very busy obstetrical unit, with dozens of nurses, secretaries, technicians, dietary staff, surgeons, midwives, and others traveling the halls at any time. Employees must wear picture badges.
Security has just informed you that a newborn was abducted. An individual posing as an employee in scrubs came into the mother's room and informed her she needed to take the infant for an exam by the physician. Since the "employee" appeared legitimate, the mother complied. A few hours later when the mother inquired about her child, the staff knew nothing about physician tests. Security was immediately informed, the police called and the hospital is in “lock down”.
DQ1: Describe a plan with at least 5 main points to prevent this abduction from happening in the future. Then identify a list of at least 5 individuals or roles that would need to be trained on this plan. Finally, suggest at least one limitation of the plan and how to ensure that risk is diminished.
Explanation / Answer
The complete problem comes here with the abduction of the baby by outside person who is not known to anyone. We can prevent this kind of problems by following some steps which are described at a stretch as follows.
1) Badge of the Employee: Every employee in the hospital has to wear badges. So that they can be recognized very easily. And when the children are taken away as mentioned above they can be checked whether the person who took the baby is real or not.
2) Using Security Cameras: Security cameras play a vital role nowadays. If something happens wrong with the employees, they can be shoot down using cameras and used for further processing of checking the employee behavior or any other situation that has occurred previously.
3) The dress code of employee: Each and every employee has to wear a particular dress code assigned to them. Because one can easily find the employee position by observing their dress code.
4) Sorting out employees: According to the problem mentioned, for each and every mother and baby, only some nurses will be assigned. They can take care of mother and baby. No other nurse in the entire hospital has a chance to check the baby and mother until they are going to discharge from the hospital.
5) Security system: Security has to be like a backbone for the entire hospital. If someone is coming into the hospital or going out of the hospital they have to be checked carefully. Whether they came with a real purpose or not otherwise they just came like that. Each and every person has to be scrutinized here. The Cameras will be some of their parts here.
The 5 individuals are the heads of the five strategies that have been mentioned above. The list contains a Security Guard, IT Employee for Security Cameras, A lead for each employee category, Nurse Leads to each category etc. All these people will be trained according to the problems that are occurring the hospital.
There is a limitation for this entire plan. And this limitation is in regard to the different employees selected above. Each employee will be under serious scrutiny which selecting them. This is in regard to find the best suitable candidate for each employee category. If they are good at their work then they will definitely be selected.
