Explanation / Answer

1. Explore issues of diversity including race, ethnicity, gender and age

As opposed to popular belief, diversity does not only pertain to the differences in ethinicity, but also race, gender, socioeconomic status and geographical area. Diversity is one of the factors that influence the perception of one person or individual in looking at another person. It is true, as heterogeneity increases there is an increase in the opinions that people have. There may be cultural differences and also differences in beliefs. Also, with the differences in age groups, there is a huge difference in the way the younger adults perceive things and the way the older adults look at things. Also, with different se-xual orientations, there may be opposition as well as stigmatisation and branding for people who are against the norm.

2. Summarize the issues of diversity including race, ethnicity, gender, and age.

With race, people tend to degrade one race over the other, for example when there is creation of a dominant hierarchy in which one group or race thinks they are dominant over the other and they are more superior. In believing so, they tend to ridicule the other race, or different colour people and deprive them of their rights. Similar is the issue with ethnicity in which one group think or perceive their cultural views as superior, such as Islam in Pakistan, where any other religion or ethnicity is not perceived equal or even worth considering. Also, gender differences are where the males dominate in the society, like the dominating males, which has now started to come at par with both men and women getting equal rights.

3. Describe the concept of race, ethnicity, a minority group, and discrimination for issues of diversity including race, ethnicity, gender, and age.

Discrimination occurs when people lower in number, are called minority. The minority people are deprived of their rights such as schools, lower pay at workplace, a stigma in the society that does not allow these people to come at par. Women, for a very long time, were not allowed to work in offices and only be confined to homes. Blacks, were not allowed to be a member of the council until before the reconstruction event. In countries like Pakistan, festivals other than Islamic, are not allowed to be celebrated freely, though their constitution doesn't say so.

4. Describe how issues of diversity including race, ethnicity, gender, and age may apply to your personal life, career goals, education or philanthropy.

For a long time, women in our society were not allowed to go for higher education. But in my case, my parents stood with me with the determination of bringing me forward so as to obtain a good independent life. Such stigma continues to be in many societies and deprivation of women is slowly being overcome. Movements like women's rights movements are a classic example of how women are trying to obtain rights, which should have been given much earlier.
