According to the Greek philosopher Socrates, "The unexamined life is not worth living," and the primary responsibility of an individual is to "know thyself." How do you feel you can apply this principle to the accomplishment of your personal, educational, and/or professional goals? What do you believe are your primary strengths and interests, and how do you feel these qualities can best contribute to the accomplishment of your personal, educational, and professional goals? Explanation / Answer

It is very rightly said that an examined life is not worth living, knowing thyself, is thus essential to life. The first relationship that an individual has is with oneself. If knowledge about oneself is incomplete and unclear then the individual will be deceit his/her own self. True knowledge about oneself, helps one to do justice not only with himself but also with one’s near and dear ones. Only after knowing oneself in detail one will develop the ability to be truthful to people around them. It is said that ‘ignorance is bliss’, but when it comes to knowing oneself, this does not fit the bill.

Having an in-depth knowledge of oneself helps and individual to decide what is best for themselves. Aspirations, life goals, achievements are all related to one’s knowledge of one’s abilities. What is the best for me, will be judged and decided by me only. This means that unless and until we know about ourselves in detail we cannot decide what is best suited for us.

Overall it may be concluded that knowing thyself is the key to success.
