In hospital settings? . In school settings? In families, relationships, and raising children? . In the design of homes, offices, playgrounds, schools? . In your own words, give examples of where you see psychology applied? Reminder: Be sure to include a minimum of 15 sentences.Explanation / Answer
1. Knowingly or unknowingly people use psychology in their everyday life. Knowing ourselves, our habits and behaviors is the major part of what psychology is aiming for. We use psychology in every day of our life, when we interact with other people or object. When we interact we react or respond, this reaction is termed as behavior in psychology. Other ways we use psychology is when we encourage ourselves to reach a goal, or to put in a new good habit. Or when we try to help others by trying to cheer them up when they are feeling down. The process of growing up and developing, etc. are all part of psychology.
2. At workplaces, industrial or organizational psychologists help others find an effective and safer way to do their work. They assess individuals or groups to discover their dynamics and they find a solution to problem. They are also involved with training, recruiting, formulating and implementing training needs, evaluating effectiveness, evaluating and increasing organization performance, etc. At hospitals, psychology is used to help patients recover and get rehabilitated faster. Patients who need critical care, dealing with trauma, and patients going through rehabilitation or going to check-in or check-out of the hospital all use psychologists to help them get better faster.
3. In school settings, psychology is used to evaluate the needs of students and assess the efficiency of different teaching methods. Every child has different needs, all of the children ae not same. So, a psychologist evaluates which teaching methods can be effectively implemented so that knowledge will reach every single child. They are also involved in career counselling, and helping children in need by providing counselling and guidance. In family settings, use of psychology is common in formation of relationships, and rearing of children. Level of attachment and intimacy varies between each member of family this is explained by psychology. Psychological wellbeing and support all make use of psychology. In rearing children, parents need to know what environment is best for children, bonding between them, cognitive development of children, behavioral development of children, etc. all are achieved with the help of psychology.
4. Designing of playgrounds, office spaces and homes are important, as they can affect an individual's performance and emotions. Decor and personal spaces inside a home or an office affects each individual differently, effects are at a subconscious level. These are due to emotional signals or cues affecting our body through our perception. Our surrounding affect our perception which in turn affects our emotion and behavior. So, it is necessary to design the spaces in such a way that it positively affects an individual and optimizes their performance (in offices) or health (in home). Designing of playground is also important to be viewed from a psychological point of view. Playground is where children master social skills, develop ego and personality, and become creative. Playground is where most of the learning for children takes place so it should be designed to facilitate it.
5. Psychology is applied every day, and everywhere in life. At work, at schools, at hospitals, at home, etc. Psychology has become an intricate part of life. From birth to death, every process can be explained by psychology. The best and most common example of psychology can be seen in advertisements. The brains and people behind advertisements are so familiar with psychology, that they are able to influence so many people with it. With their advertisements they are able to draw customers to them and sell their products. How can we forget the advertisements of McDonald’s, Dominos, Coca-Cola, Budlight, etc.? Another example is that of being an effective communicator. Communication is an important part of life, how will anyone survive without it? So, when you communicate you are using psychology to be effective at it. You use psychology to process information, retain information, make decision of what to say next, etc. There are many other examples that show the use of psychology in everyday life, like, improving memory, being efficient in work, making decisions, etc.
