A mid size company that wants to expand busienss and launce product in the international market, has three options. This tech-company can take any strategies among waterfall entry, wave startegy or sprinkle entry strategy. Waterfall entry strategy is entering into the world market country by country. The sprinkle strategy is to launch products globally at once. Ther wave strategy is the mixed startegy. The previous two startegies have bothe advantage and disadvantage.
In benefits of global launch of the product is acess of large scale of market at a time and there is an opportunity of rapid growth. Sales revenue also increases rapidly. Risks of failure is diversified across different market in this case. However, this startegy has a big risk of failur also. If product fails to satisfy customer demand in major markets, the firm can face huge financial loss, which cannot be compensated. If the tech firm wish to launch globally its product at a time, it requires a huge amount of both financial and human capital resources. However, this amount of resources cannot be expected from a mid size firm. Hence, in case of product failure, the loss is not compensated and the firm may not get another chance to recovery.
On the other hand, the firm has option of waterfall startegy through which, it can enter international market through country by country. The advantage of this startegy is that the tech firm can sell its product in one country acn use the financial gain to launch product in another country. In the first launch, it can understand whether the product is accepted by the consumers or not. The firm can revise of modify the product accordingly if necessary. It can progress by acquiring knowledge. However, there are disadvantages also that if product fails and the firm already makes huge investment in launching the product in a single market, then it can lose the adbvantage of first mover. Market may lose its faith on the firm. Moreover, without any background, launching product in a single market is difficult for a mid size firm.
Therefore, the company can be suggested to use wave strategy. It is the mix of previous two startegies. The tech company can divide markets into groups. In the first group, the firm can put countries similar characteristics with its home country. In the second wave, this firm can use the cash flows and knowledge to enter into the second group of countries, which have different characteristics than home market. In the second wave, the potential and financial strength would be higher and risks would be less. Consequently, with the increase in global recognition and brand value, the company can change its business strategy through learning process.
