1) It belongs to a group of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs. It is also a antiplatelet and suppresses platelet activity. Inhibition of COX 1 and 2 suppresses the production of prostaglandins and thromboxone. As a result pain transmission and platelet aggregation is stopped. Aspirin has been known to cause Reye's syndrome, gastrointestinal bleeding etc.
