The detective is thinking about how to get catch hold of the person who he finds out to be a butcher
At the same time a drop of tomato soup falls on his desk which he mistakens to be blood and thinking that there is some mishap going to happen on the floor above him he rushes to the above floor.
the landlady is preparing tomato soup which is spilt by a rat and in the process of killing the rat she makes lots of noises and action which happens to be done by a butcher . Without realising the whole situation the detective goes in to the kitchen and shoots but the bullet hits the soup container and then he understands the whole drama.
He does hear some noise of help from downstairs but due to the insistance of the landlady doent pay attention to it
