Dr. Henry believes that if he gives couples a measure of relationship satisfacti

ID: 3318114 • Letter: D

Question

Dr. Henry believes that if he gives couples a measure of relationship satisfaction (0-8) before he provide them couples therapy and then the same measure of relationship satisfaction (0-8) after therapy his patients will be less likely to divorce. He give his 41 clients the satisfaction measure then therapy for one month and gives the same 41 clients the satisfaction measure after therapy. (Total 18 pts)

A. What are the independent and dependent variables and how are each scaled (1 pt each; Total 4 pts)?

Independent: Measure of satisfaction before therapy and measure of satisfaction after therapy            Scaling: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. 0 being the least and 8 being the highest

            Dependent: Divorce    Scaling: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. 0 being the least and 8 being the highest

B. What test should Dr. Henry use (2 pts)? Multiple regression test

C. Why that test (1 pts)?

We have two independent variables and one dependent variable with same scale variable then we can find out which variable is more likely to divorce

D. What are the null and alternative hypotheses for that test (2 pts)?

Null Hypothesis Ho: 1 = 2 = 0

Research hypothesis H1: 1 2 0 or = 0

E. What is the critical value for p=.05 (1 pts)?

p< 0.05 then we reject the null hypothesis

G. If Dr. Henry calculates a test statistic of 2.11, should he (2 pts)?            Retain H0                   Reject H0

2.11 > p value of 0.05 then we retain the null hypothesis

H. Interpret the findings (6 pts):

In conclusion we fail to reject the null hypothesis. That means the independent variable measure of satisfaction before therapy and measure of satisfaction after therapy does not contribute significantly to likely occurrence of divorce between couples. Therefore, the measures done before and after therapy are very helpful and should be carried on.

**Can anyone check the already answered and do "E" for me with shown work?**

Explanation / Answer

B. What test should Dr. Henry use

Here Dr. Henry must use two sample paired (dependent sample) t test

C. Why that test

Here the same set of couples have gone for both the experiment level, after the therapy and before the tharapy.

D. What are the null and alternative hypotheses for that test

Null Hypothesis : H0 : There is nil or no difference between the averge satisfaction measure befor couple therapy than after couple therapy. d = 0 where d = 1 -2

Alternative Hypothesis : Ha : there is significant positive difference which prompts less rate of divorce after couple therapy than befor taking couple therapy. d > 0

E . What is the critical value for p=.05

HEre dF = 41 -1 = 40

so tcritical = t40,0.05 = 1.6838 (as one tailed test)

G. If Dr. Henry calculates a test statistic of 2.11, should he

As t = 2.11is greater than t (critical ) so we shall reject the null hypothesis.

H. Interpret the findings

Answer : Here we will reject the null hypothesis and that concludes that that we will accept the reseearcher's claim and conclude that he gives couples a measure of relationship satisfaction (0-8) before he provide them couples therapy and then the same measure of relationship satisfaction (0-8) after therapy his patients will be less likely to divorce.
