Question

Based on data in your table find different probability:

1) that randomly selected person is Female and is less than 40 years old: P( Female and Below 40).

2) Probability that randomly selected person is Male or person is above 40 years old: P (Male or Above 40)

3) Find the probability that if selected person is female her age is below 40, conditional probability P(Below 40 if Female). Tip: in this case you should divide by number of Female in the table, not by total number of all people.

M1 10

M2 20

F1 30

F2 40

Explanation / Answer

here we have the table as

male(less than 40 years)=10 persons

male(greater than 40 years)=20 persons

female(less than 40 years)=30 persons

female(greater than 40 years)=40 persons

so total male=10+20=30   and total female=30+40=70

hence total number of people=70+30=100

1) P[female and below 40]=total number of female and below 40/total number of people=30/100=0.3 [answer]

2)   P[male and above 40]=total number of male and above 40/total number of people=20/100=0.2 [answer]

3) conditional probability: P[below 40 if female]=total number of female and below 40/total number of female=30/70=3/7 [answer]
