Question

Based on Gao et al. (2016), Zika virus has been modeled and all necessary parameters required to calculate an SIR model was produced. We will use these parameters to mathematically calculate the SIR model.

Beta = 0.4 (infectious mosquitoes to human transmission)
In February 2015, there were 16,059 confirmed cases. In May of that year, this dropped to 2,058 confirmed cases, as individuals recovered.
Population size of Brazil = 200,000,000

The first question is asking for the rate of recovery, but I ended up with 1.7? Which I know is wrong, as it is out of bounds. How do I solve for this type of question?

Explanation / Answer

Here recovery rate k will remain 1 as the epidemic will spread on per day bases.
