Write a 3-5 paragraphs and include examples to support your answer

Prompt #1: The beginning of life on Earth is characterized by a favorable suite of conditions. As the climate and environment changed, so did the types of organisms that developed. Describe the conditions on Earth that made life possible for different types of organisms. Think about geologic and evolutionary time scales in terms of how long it took for different organisms to development and become successful. Relate the history of life on Earth to how the climate and environment is changing today, especially in terms of rate of change.

Explanation / Answer

During the pre cambrian period, series of changes took place in the earth's atomosphere which made it likely for the survival of organisms. About 4.1 billion years ago, the crust of the earth began to cool and stabilize. This cooling of the earth resulted in the formation of cluods and simultaneous heavy downpour which formed the oceans. Hence, for the next 1.3 billion years, there occured the formation of first life and initial landmasses. The early life forms were the bacteria and archea which could survive in such an atomosphere.

The beginning of Proterozoic period marked the evolution of oxygenic photosynthesis. This lead to the evolution of the blue green algae. Free oxygen began to form during this period which made it an oxygen rich atomosphere. Now, the cambrian period occured after that. This period marked the evolution of almost all plants and animals. The Cambrian period marked the first appearance of human beings.

The climate and environmental is changing today with respect to the history in such a way that the oxygen levels in the atomosphere are decreasing at an alarming rate due to global warming. Further, the growth rates of the terrestrial and aquatic plants are temperature dependent; so an increase in the mean temperatures globally woud reduce the growth of fauna and may lead to extinction. Deforestation is also a major cause in this regard.
