Question

Write a 1-2 page paper defining and differentiating between the two worldviews detailed in this week's lecture. Describe which

worldview you most closely identify with? Explain your reasoning and support your thinking with credible sources

this weeks lecture:

Environmental Philosophy

Each of you has your own personal worldview. Your worldview is how you view our (human) place and role on the Earth. When considering your environmental worldview, there are two competing environmental worldviews that are radically different from each other. The worldviews are either anthropocentric or biocentric.

The western worldview is anthropocentric and holds that humans as the supreme species are dominant over all other species and therefore only have an obligation to humans. In this worldview, humans have unrestricted access to all of the Earth's resources to use as we see fit.

The deep ecology worldview is biocentric and proposes that humans have a moral responsibility for all species, not just our own. People who hold this worldview believe all species have a right to exist and don't differentiate humans from other species.

As you can see, the two worldviews are very different. One believes humans are dominant while the other believes we are equal.

Here is a graphic from the link above illustrating the anthropocentric or biocentric views:

Explanation / Answer

I closely identify with biocentric worldwide view.

Biocentric world wide view it deals with the environmental ethics that is to extend the status of moral object from human beings to all the living things in nature. According to this world wide view humans are not superior but all the species have the equal right to live on this planet Earth. Biocentric worldwide view also show moral and ethical sense.

It also encourage the world for the environmental protection along with the preservation of biodiversity and animal rights. It is important to protect the environment because man-made disruptions to ecosystem can cause extinction because pollution creates dangers for both animals and people and because mankind owns the nature world a moral obligation.

I closely identify myself with biocentric worldwide view because these below following steps that I follow -

* I always volunteer on Earth day which is celebrated on 22nd April.

* hosting a recycling drive

* encouraging a sustainable development

* supporting local farmers market that is j always buy vegetables and fruits from the local market.

* and saving energy - I always switch off the fans and other electronic goods when not in use

* I never waste water

* I always encourage my friends to plant more and more trees.

* I go school by bicycle and I use a refillable water bottle and reusable lunch containers.

I personally believe that biodiversity boosts the ecosystem and each organisms a critical role to play in the environment for example a large number of plant species means a greater variety of crops so it is very important to save our environment, biodiversity and the species because these species maintains a ecological balance in the environment. We human can't do anything without them so equal rights should also be given to the animals too because they make our biodiversity more diverse and significant.

To me in biodiversity every single living species have an equally important role to play in the ecosystem therefore I always believe in the biocentric worldwide view.
