BLPE seemed to arise all of a sudden in response to the common use of penicillin to treat infections caused by Enterobacteriaeceae. A. BLPE are resistant to all of the following antibiotics. For each, state the antibiotic's mode of action, and explain the most likely resistance mechanism Ceftriaxone Tetracycline Aminoglycosides Vancomycin B. If we only overused Penicillin, how could that lead suddenly to the development of resistance to all of these different antibiotics, especially Tetracycline and Aminoglycosides? C. BLPE can still be treated with Polymyxins (and with some of the new antibiotic classes we didn't have time to talk about in Bio 221). How do Polymyxins work, and why would physicians be reluctant to use them in a patient unless absolutely necessary?

A. Ceftriaxone : Ceftriaxone is a cephalosporin (SEF a low spas) antibiotic. It works by fighting your body bacteria. Ceftriaxone is used for many types of bacterial infections, such as serious or lifelong forms such as marineitis. Ceftriaxone can be used for purposes not intended for this drug guidelines listed.

B. Excessive use of antibiotics is the most common cause of drug-resistant bacteria. Many people claim antibiotics for viral infections. But antibiotics only deal with bacterial infections. If penicillin accepts and leads to penicillin-resistant bacteria in your body it can harm you.
