can someone check my grammar, punctuation, flow of paper and make any suggestions?
MMSE is a test that is commonly used test patients for problems with memory or other mental abilities.
Orientation to time
Orientation to time part is conducted to determine whether the patient orientated enough to know current date, the current month, current year, what day is it and what season is it.
With my patient he had been in a MVA and he fractured his skull, so he had trouble with determining the date, month, year, day of the week, but he got the season right.
Orientation to place
Orientation to time part is conducted to determine whether the patient orientated enough to know where he/she is, what room there in, current city, county, and what state their living in.
My patient even though he couldn’t remember or did know day, month, year, or day of the week, he knew where he was at cottage more, he knew his room number, city and he knew he was in state.
Immediate recall
The recall tests the patient’s ability to recall words that the asked to repeat. The test is designed to test to the patient short term verbal memory, calculation, language, and construct ability.
my patient got two out of the three right. He couldn’t remember the word tree, probably due to his head injury and his ability to withhold short-term information at that moment.
Attention
MMSE Attention test is designed to determine whether a patient can count from a set number counting backward by another set number 5 times and spell world forward and backwards.
This part my patient did well. He didn’t have any problems counting backwards starting at 100 and counting down by 7. He had a little hesitation in-between numbers, but that was to be expected when you are concentrating hard.
Delayed verbal recall
The Delayed verbal recall test measure for the diagnosis of amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) which a patient is given words to remember from previous part of test, and asked to tell the proctor what item he/she is holding.
My patient remembered all three of the words I asked in a previous section, he knew what a watch, and pencil was, so I determined that he isn’t cognitive impaired.
