Explanation / Answer
· greenhouse gas production from construction and operation of pavements,
Greenhouse Gas emission from construction of pavement interpreted by Santero, Loojos and Ochsendorf in their research. The construction material excavation equipment, transport vehicles and concrete pavement equipment emitting GHG gases. Even the pavement carbonation and its solar radiation also contributing in GHG emission
· how each of the following reduces greenhouse emissions:
Embodied Emissions – It is GHG emission during manufacturing materials and construction of pavements
Albedo - It is the fraction of solar radiation reflected by the pavement helping in producing GHG emission
Carbonation – It is a chemical process in which CO2 released from the concrete pavement material due to calcination. Its effect is minimal on GHG emission. But it can be reduced by stocking concrete materials stock per a year.
Vehicle fuel consumption – Most of the vehicles fuel consumption depends up on design, construction material and maintenance. If roads pavements are smooth the fuel consumption will be less vice versa. If fuel consumption less mean less GHG emission
