Do you think more people die from shark attacks or from falling airplane parts? You might be surprised to learn that you are 30 times more likely to die from a falling airplane part than from a shark attack. Using what you have learned about the availability heuristic, why do you think this is so?

You are the campaign manager for Ima Winner, who is running for mayor in your hometown. Using the availability heuristic, what are two things you can do to increase Ima’s chances of winning the election?

Falling airplane parts killing more people than from shark attack is old saying may be true during World Wars I and II up to1960. That time more people might have died because of falling airplane parts then shark attack. But in present period such killings are very rare. Present killings due airplanes are mostly due to airplane accidents. Generally falling aircraft parts not cause any accident. Examples

In Australia average shark killing per annum is around is 3 persons. But media creates a massive propaganda and making it very big. Similar may be the situation in USA.

So present day killings by falling aircraft parts may not be 30 times more than shark killings but people killed by air accidents are much more times than shark killings.

If I am the campaign manager for Ima Winner, who is running for mayor in my hometown. Using the availability heuristic, my two things I can do to increase Ima’s chances of winning the election are

1.     Assessing the opponent campaign plan and planning in advance to dominate our plan over opponent plan.

2.     Reaching each door and meeting voters and knowing their problems and needs and showing plans how to overcome them and making promises to in election campaign.

With those two main strategies, I make a plan to visit all the voters without missing any, make friendship with them and bring feeling among voters that our Candidate is much better than the opponent and attract majority votes which can contribute to our Imam win in the election for Mayor Post.
