Question

Final Exam Phy-113-01 Spring-2018 Section-III (Problem solving each carrying 3 marks: 5 X 3-15) 36. What should be the equivalent capacitance of four capacitors each of 0,004 F in series to an external circuit? 37. Find focal length () of a double convex lens (n-1.5) with radii of curvatures +6 cm, and -6 cm? 38. Find the slits separation (d) for single-slit diffraction with path difference equals to 500 nm? (Angle of inclination is 20). 39. Find the kinetic energy of a proton (mass -1.67 x 107Kg) with de Broglie wavelength A 0.1 nm? 40. Calculate the decay constant () of radioactive materials of half-life 700 ns?

Explanation / Answer

36. 1/Ceq = 1/C1 + 1/C2 + .......

when connected in series,

1/Ceq = 4 / 0.004 F

Ceq = 0.001 F ....Ans

37. 1/f = (n-1)[1/R1 - 1/R2]

1/f = (1.5 - 1)[1/6 + 1/6]

f = 6 cm ....Ans

38. path diff = pi a sin(theta)

500 x 10^-9 = pi (a) sin(20)

a = 465 nm

39. p = h / lambda

p = (6.626 x 10^-34)/(0.1 x 10^-9)

p = 6.626 x 10^-24 kg m/s

and KE = p^2 / 2 m

KE =1.314 x 10^-20 J

40. decay constant = ln(2) / half life

= ln(2) / (700 x 10^-9)

= 9.90 x 10^5 s^-1
