Question
A converging lens with a focal length of 4.0 cm is located 23.5 cm to the left of a diverging lens having a focal length of -14.5 cm. If an object is located 9.0 cm to the left of the converging lens, locate and describe completely the final image formed by the diverging lens. Where is the image located as measured from the diverging lens? Submit Answer Tries 0/10 What is the magnification? Submi't Answer Tries o/10 Also determine, with respect to the original object whether the image is real or virtual, upright or inverted? Check all statements that are true Select all that are True. The image is inverted The image is upright The image is virtual The image is real Submit Answer Tries 0/10Explanation / Answer
for converging lens,
f1 = 4 cm
object distance, p1 = 9 cm
1/f = 1/p + 1/q
1/4 = 1/9 + 1/q1
q1 = 7.2 cm
image is formed 7.2 cm right to the converging lens.
This image will work as object for second lens.
p2 = 23.5 - 7.2 = 16.3 cm
f2= - 14.5 cm
1/(-14.5) = 1/16.3 + 1/q2
q2 = - 7.7 cm ......Ans
(final image is 7.7 cm left of divrging lens)
-----------------
m = m1 m2 = ( - q1/p1) (-q2/p2)
m = (7.2/9)(-7.7/16.3)
m = - 0.38 ...........Ans
---------------------
Image is inverted.
Image is virtual.
